GONA PROJECT

Program/economic evaluation of GONA intervention in San Francisco Bay Area

The Gathering of Native Americans (GONA) is a culture-based planning process where community members gather to address community-identified issues. It is targeted for youth and young adults and focuses on themes that are integral to the American Indian/Alaskan Native cultural values and traditions. It is structured as an intervention and there are numerous GONAs all across the United States.

This project is looking at the urban youth population who underwent and are currently undergoing the GONA intervention in the San Francisco Bay area. We are working with the research team at the Native American Health Centre to design an economic evaluation to determine the benefits of GONA from a holistic and financial perspective. This study will take a mixed-methods approach and will draw from Native American research designs.
